Beer #19


After a three year hiatus, beer number 19 meets mouth to wondrous praise. Recipe below for extract and all-grain. I had to do an extract recipe because my all-grain setup isn't completed yet.

Homebrew Heaven Basic Beer
(extract version)

3-lbs. Pale malt dry extract
3-lbs. Amber malt dry extract
12-oz. Crystal 20L
12-oz. Victory
 1-oz. Northern Brewer @ 60 min.
.5-oz. Hallertauer @ 15 min.
IBU: 35

(all-grain version)
8-lbs. Pale 2-row malt
1-lb. Crystal 40L
12-oz. Crystal 20L
12-oz. Victory
 1-oz. Northern Brewer @ 60 min.
.5-oz. Hallertauer @ 15 min.
IBU: 35

I made beer number 20 last Wednesday using this recipe:

6-lbs. Amber malt dry extract
12-oz. Crystal 20L
12-oz. Victory
.5-oz. Northern Brewer @ 60 min.
1-oz. Hallertauer @ 25 min.
.5-oz. Hallertauer @ 2 min. (homegrown)
IBU: 30

It's a little darker and with less hops (I prefer an IBU between 25 and 30). When I eventually make an all-grain, this will be the recipe:

9-lbs. Pale 2-row malt
1-lb. Crystal 40L
8-oz. Victory
.5-oz. Northern Brewer @ 60 min.
1-oz. Hallertauer @ 15 min.
.5-oz. Hallertauer @ 2 min.
IBU: 25
